Dogs are truly amazing. Not only are they cute and cuddly, some dogs have even saved lives.
One woman from St. Augustine, Florida says she’s alive today because of her two Labrador retrievers, Sadie and Bella, who sprang action at the first sign of trouble.
On Dec. 3, Maureen Hatcher collapsed in her home. She’d suffered a severe stroke, and no one else was home to call 911… or so she thought.
“I remember Sadie coming in,” Maureen later said. “I said, ‘Mommy needs help’ and then they were gone.”
In a stroke of luck, Maureen’s front door had been left ajar for some reason. Normally, it locks automatically. Her Ring doorbell camera captured the moment her furry heroes sprinted outside and barked for help.
Moments later, Sadie and Bella returned with one of the neighbors. The neighbor paused to knock at the door before entering to find Maureen on the floor. That’s when she called 911.
Paramedics arrived shortly after and carried Maureen out on a stretcher. From there, she was taken to a stroke center at Baptist Medical Center. Doctors determined she’d suffered an ischemic stroke, meaning a blood clot had cut off flow to the right side of her brain. They were able to remove the clot and Maureen made a beautiful recovery. Without medical attention, a clot like that could have lead to permanent brain damage or even death.
Medical experts say it’s very likely Maureen would have died if not for her dogs’ quick reactions. “By rights, I shouldn’t be in the shape that I’m in,” Maureen said. “I am blessed… very blessed.”
Blessed, indeed! Bella and Sadie must have been so scared when they saw their mom fall down, but they kept their cool and did what needed to be done to rescue her. Watch as these good girls save their owner in the clip below, and share with all the dog lovers in your life.
